Well… I did a thing I never thought I would do! Alesha and I got matching tattoos. I honestly never thought I would get a tattoo as I couldn’t imagine something that I would want on my body for the rest of my life. Well, I was proven wrong!
For those of you that don’t know, I have a now 18-year-old daughter named Alesha. She had mentioned that we should get a matching tattoo months ago and I just laughed it off at first. The more I thought about it the more I liked the idea. Well, 4 days after Alesha’s 18th birthday, was the one-year anniversary of the adoption finalization. We were in Arizona (our first trip together) to visit some family and friends and to celebrate both the
adoption anniversary and her birthday, so the timing felt perfect. We went together to get the same tattoo (and both of our first tattoos) on our wrists.
This cross represents a lot for us. First and foremost, God brought us together. When we stand next to each other, or hold hands, our crosses are almost touching. This is a very visual symbol for us that He brought us into each other’s lives for a reason. The cross also reminds us that God is always with us, whether we feel His presence in that moment, or not. Personally, my cross is on my right wrist. Being right-handed, this is the hand I use to do pretty much everything, so it also reminds me to allow God to lead me and to be involved in everything I do.
Like adopting a teenager, I never imagined I would get a tattoo. However, God just continually reminds me how sometimes He wants us to do the abnormal in order to glorify Him. Is there something God has really been putting on your heart that you have been hesitant about because it isn’t deemed “normal” by society, or you are too young, etc? I challenge you to take the plunge. Like my tattoo, God will never leave you. <3
